Ghouls lurk around every corner in Gotham City. The coming of the Batman, as well as Harvey Dent’s brief all out war on the mobsters, has turned casual criminals into a dying breed. Only the most powerful and dangerous now remain, and the city's savior, Batman, is now believed by many to be just as bad as the others. But some of Gotham's citizens retain hope. The night is always darkest before dawn.

Spoilers of The Dark Knight are below, please do not read on if you do not wish to be spoiled!

Ghouls lurk around every corner in Gotham City. Many of them blend into society seamlessly. These are the least dangerous of Gotham’s dregs. These are the mobsters who are in the death throws of their reign. Corruption, while still a huge problem, has been fading in recent times. The coming of the Batman, as well as Harvey Dent’s brief all out war on the mobsters, has turned them into a dying breed. Only the most powerful and dangerous of them remain. The great crime families are feeling the pinch. Don’t let this fool you. There are far greater threats out there still. Threats that don’t play games quite like the mobsters did. Mobsters preferred to buy people off. The new breed of criminal is more alike to the monsters children hear about in stories than the old criminals.

These new criminals show little want to hide their true identities and the havoc that they wreak reverberates through every level of Gotham society. These criminals are only rivaled by Batman who has proved capable of taking them head on. The police are still easily bought and corruption a grave issue as well as the fact that they are in search of ‘the vigilante’ Batman.

Harvey Dent and Rachel Dawes left an enduring message in the hearts of the ordinary citizens of Gotham in the wakes of their deaths. They, like Thomas and Martha Wayne, inspired the citizenry to do good and fight back against the corruptive forces in their city. So while the shadows have been assaulted by the people and Batman. They have been locked in a stalemate. It is as Harvey Dent said before his great descent into evil and hopelessness, “The night is always darkest before dawn.”

This game is based in the aftermath of the movie The Dark Knight and the chaos that will have ensued just after all of the great tragedy and horror that was created by The Joker. The Joker was locked away in Arkham, but it won’t be long before he breaks free of his prison and there is always the threat of the other’s rising in the ashes of Gotham’s old Criminal elite.
