Ghouls lurk around every corner in Gotham City. The coming of the Batman, as well as Harvey Dent’s brief all out war on the mobsters, has turned casual criminals into a dying breed. Only the most powerful and dangerous now remain, and the city's savior, Batman, is now believed by many to be just as bad as the others. But some of Gotham's citizens retain hope. The night is always darkest before dawn.
QUOTE of the MONTH
"Well if you came in today just to meet with the sexy beefcake on page 6, I'm sure I can find him for you." Susanna to Bruce.
“Actually, I had dinner with him last night,” he volleyed in a conversational tone. “He wasn’t overly chatty though. I think he was playing hard to get.” Bruce to Susanna.

Selina Kyle aka Catwoman « Thread Started on Jul 20, 2008, 2:18am »
Name: Selina Kyle Nickname(s): Catwoman and The Cat Age: 27 Gender: Female Character Type: Canon Occupation:Thief Affiliation: Herself
Physical Description: Of average height and build Selina has over the years turned her body into the best possible weapon she could manage through intense training in martial arts, gymnastics, and dance. This 'human weapon' is toned but not overly muscular making up for what she lacks in strength with speed and flexibility. She has dark hair that is usually cropped fairly short in a stylish manner. Her style of clothing is considered edgy, and always fashion forward. Selina carries her self in a manner that gives off a certain feline grace and attitude whether she’s in costume or not. She is not particularly beautiful, but neither is she ugly. Selina was gifted with high cheek bones and an extremely pale and smooth complexion. Among her flaws, according to her, are her too thin lips and too large eyes. Her most hated flaw is her jaw line which she considers to be overly masculine and exceedingly ugly. The confidence she exudes from every pore is more than enough to make her forget about any physical flaws she may have. She does however have moments where she appears on the softer side when her dark eyes show tinges or sadness, guilt, and loneliness.
Personality: Selina likes to be the center of attention and has gone through great lengths to achieve this. Whether it has to do with a new, skimpy dress or a short and crazy hair cut she’ll try anything to get all eyes on her. This is a manifestation of her narcissistic nature. She easily gets jealous of those who steal her spot light and will fight, if necessary, to retrieve it. The violent aspect of her personality is kept to her alter-ego and hidden as best as possible from the public. She posses an honor code similar to that of Batman, even if she works on the opposite side of the law more often than not, and will not commit murder unless it is absolutely necessary to her own survival. Luckily for her she has been put in a situation such as that only a handful of times.
In both public and criminal activities Selina is a bit of a fire-cracker and a thrill seeker. This adrenaline junky attitude is probably what led her to becoming Catwoman in the first place. She gets a natural high from her escapades as a masked criminal and world class thief. This brashness often puts her at odds with the world she has forcibly included herself in, the high society of Gotham, whom are all really targets to her and thus worth keeping tabs on, even at the expense of hearing whispers behind her back. She is also a staunch feminist that, during her costumed moments, will stop to mess up a male brutalizing a female.
History: Born to rather poor family in Gotham during what could only be described as its personal Great Depression she learned much of what her life entails now at an early age as a means of survival. Her father left her and her mother at a young age, as a means to find himself a better, burden free life. This subjected Selina to a revolving door of ‘father figures’ due to her mother’s attempts at forging a better life for her daughter, doing whatever necessary to make Selina’s life better. This isn’t a period of her life that she enjoys talking about in any capacity. In fact she’ll readily lie about her past and make it out to be all rainbows and butterflies.
Selina was about seven when things started to look up for her. One of her mother’s consorts took an interest in the young girl that, for once, wasn’t entirely inappropriate. He noticed the skills that she had amassed from living in the slums from such a young age as well as natural abilities such as good reflexes and flexibility. He was a master thief and decided to take Selina on as his protégé. Over the years she would be trained in martial arts and gymnastics. Her first big time crime was committed when she was twelve years old. It was a simple one. Selina’s job had always been to play the distraction to allow her ‘sensei’ to get the job done, but this time because of circumstances she was to do the actual stealing. Able to squeeze into cramped spaces Selina carried off her first major heist without getting caught, even as her master was shot and killed. The haul was a large diamond necklace. With the money that was netted from this first crime Selina became the breadwinner in her family and able to provide food and constant shelter.
These years were the happiest of her childhood. As she entered her teenage years Selina was already imbued with the sense of self that she holds onto today because of her abilities and the fact that she was already providing for her family. During a heist gone wrong one of her accomplices got captured and her mother, fearing he would blame it on Selina, packed up what little they had and left Gotham city. This was a period of sadness for Selina because she was also forced to give up her high octane lifestyle of thievery. Under pressure from her mother, Selina took up gymnastics and dance instead of her former activities. Her work ethic soon earned her praise as a great gymnast and dancer. Scholarships soon stated pouring in and Selina was shipped off to college.
In her sophomore year of college Selina was made aware that her mother had been fallen ill. Selina dropped out immediately and while she pretended she was working as a dancer for various theater companies she had actually returned to a life of crime and steadily honed her skills to a level that she was satisfied with. It was a year later, after her mother had recovered, that Selina made her grand return to Gotham. At twenty-one years old she tried to live an honest life but soon found it impossible. Due to the mob’s presence in the city, and Selina’s reputation, she quickly found work for them. Regularly stealing from one family for another only to steal from that same family that paid her for the one she had stolen from, her life continued in this way for years.
Her routine was changed the night something new appeared in Gotham. The Batman. The ensuing chaos from the events perpetuated by the League of Shadows and Scarecrow took away Selina’s source of income. Deciding it was time for a change she adapted to the current world, and not a moment too soon, as the crime lords became tied to the man known as The Joker. Selina created an alter-ego all her own. She adapted the cat-suit she wore on missions. She added retractable claws to the gloves and a full mask leaving only the eyes, nostrils, and mouth to the open and put a pair of cat ears on it. The papers soon named her The Catwoman. Her advent was relegated to the gossip magazines what with the events the Joker unleashed. This was not going to last for long. Even as her new persona became more and more public Selina herself began to include herself amongst the High-Society of Gotham using the money she made from robbing these same people to present herself as a rich young woman.
Other: Selina is extremely well adapted to her chosen ‘profession’. She has nearly inhuman reflexes, dexterity, and speed. She is also fairly proficient in many weapons, but her weapon of choice is a whip which is always on her person as Catwoman. Weaknesses: Craves attention, fickle, always searching for the next ‘high’. Model: Shannyn Sossamon
